Play enables children to make sense of the world by encouraging them to explore and investigate. It provides them with an opportunity to experience real-life situations, almost as a rehearsal for the future. And here’s a good example…
Gridlock!
Through play, children can explore and experiment without fear of failure. Play gives them choice over their actions and reactions and provides concrete experiences that lay the foundations for more abstract thinking.
Play enables children to learn individually and with others. It allows them to develop independence and build relationships.
Parental Involvement
Adults also enjoy play. Through their children they can step back in time and relive the thrill of flying a kite or driving a train or being a pirate sailing the seven seas or a princess in a fairytale castle.
Parents may also have a special talent or an interesting occupation that the children would like to learn about. In the past they’ve enjoyed short talks by vets, nurses and doctors.
We’ve also had a policeman, a carpenter, a lollypop man, a beekeeper and several musicians.
So do come and join us. Whatever your hobby or profession the children will be fascinated.
